# The best holiday price trackers for 2026 (and the only one that gets your money back)

> Payback is the best holiday price tracker for 2026 because it does what no other tracker does: it watches store prices and your receipts, and files the refund request for you when a Black Friday or Cyber Monday sale was fake. Keepa, CamelCamelCamel, Honey, Karma and Google Shopping compared for holiday shopping.

**The short version:** the best holiday price tracker is the one that still works after you've clicked buy. Most trackers show you a price graph so you can decide whether a Black Friday deal is real. That's useful, but it leaves the hard part to you, and it does nothing once your order is in. Payback is different. It tracks store prices every day, reads the receipts already in your inbox, and automatically requests a refund when the sale you bought from was never real. You don't check anything. You don't fill out a form. You just keep what you bought.

This matters more between Thanksgiving and New Year's than at any other time, because the holidays are when fake sales are thickest. Stores raise prices in October, "cut" them for Black Friday, and run "up to 70% off" banners where only a few clearance items carry the big number. A tracker that tells you a price was higher last week can be fooled by that. A tracker that compares your receipt against ninety days of real pricing can't.

A quick disclosure before the list: Payback makes Payback. We put ourselves first because we think we earn it for holiday shopping specifically, and we say exactly where each other tool beats us. We're a consumer company, not a law firm, and nothing here is legal advice.

## Why holiday sales need a different kind of tracker

A normal price tracker answers one question: what did this item cost before today? During the holidays, that question has a trap in it. The "before" that matters isn't last week. It's the everyday price from September, before the store started setting up its Black Friday story. If a store lifted a jacket from $80 to $120 in late October, a tracker that only shows recent history will tell you the $80 Black Friday price is a 33% drop. It is, from a price that nobody paid.

The second trap is the "was" price itself. Under US rules, a strike-through price has to be one the store actually charged for a reasonable time. California says it has to be the real going price within the last three months. A lot of holiday "was" prices don't meet that bar, and no browser extension is going to tell you so, because an extension only sees what's on the page today.

The third trap is timing. Even if you spot a fake sale, you usually spot it after the box has arrived and the return window is closing. The holidays are busy. Nobody re-checks the price of a gift they bought on November 28th in mid-January. That's the gap Payback was built to close: it does the re-checking for you, on every order, and asks for the money back when the discount was made up.

*Chart: Example of the holiday price hike. The price sits at $80 for weeks, is raised to $120 two weeks before Black Friday, then is "cut" back to $80 and advertised as 33% off. A tracker that only shows the last two weeks calls that a deal. (Illustration with example numbers, not a real store.)*

## 1. Payback: the best holiday price tracker, because it works after you buy

Payback isn't an extension and it doesn't put a graph on the product page. You connect the inbox where your order confirmations land, with read-only access, and that's the whole setup. We record the prices on hundreds of thousands of online stores every day. When a receipt arrives, we compare what you paid against what that store was really charging before and after your order. If the "sale" was the everyday price with a fake "was" on top, we ask the store for your refund. You keep what you bought.

The automated refund request is the feature no other tracker has, and it's the one that matters most in December. Every other tool on this list stops at information. Payback starts there. Our price record is the evidence, our request to the store is the action, and if the store refuses, you can choose to share your case with law firms that take on fake-pricing matters. You're never obligated to work with them, and you pay Payback nothing unless money comes back to you.

There's one more reason Payback doesn't show you prices before you buy, and it's worth understanding. The protection you have against a fake sale comes from having been deceived by it. If you already knew the discount was fake and bought anyway, there was no deception, and there's not much anyone can do. So Payback keeps the price history on our side, checks it after the purchase, and uses it as evidence. That's the opposite of how a browser extension works, and it's why the two are best used together.

- **Pros:** works on regular online stores, not just Amazon. Daily price records, not snapshots. Checks orders you already placed. Files the refund request for you. Free to join, first refund free, nothing to pay unless money comes back.
- **Cons:** no graph to look at while you browse. Only covers stores in our index. You have to connect your inbox, which not everyone wants to do, even read-only.
- **Best for:** anyone buying gifts from brands' own websites, Shopify stores and mid-size retailers, which is where most holiday fake sales live.

## 2. Keepa: best for Amazon holiday shopping

If your holiday list is mostly Amazon, Keepa is the tool. It's a browser extension and website that charts the full price history of any Amazon listing, going back years, including third-party sellers. Add your wish list and set a target price, and it emails you when the price gets there. Its Black Friday value is simple: you can see whether today's "deal" is really a low or just the price it was in August.

The limit is in the name of the site it tracks. Keepa knows nothing about Nike.com, a Shopify store, or the brand site you found on Instagram. It also does nothing after checkout. If you spot a fake sale on Keepa, the follow-up is on you.

- **Pros:** the deepest Amazon history anywhere. Every seller. Alerts. Free tier is enough for shoppers.
- **Cons:** Amazon only. Dense graphs. Nothing after purchase.
- **Best for:** Amazon-heavy holiday lists.

## 3. CamelCamelCamel: the simplest Amazon check

Paste an Amazon link, get a graph. CamelCamelCamel has done that one thing for over a decade and still does it well. No account, no clutter, and the chart makes the pre-Black-Friday price hike obvious when there is one. Like Keepa, it's Amazon only, and it can't help with an order you've already placed.

>
> [Sign up free](https://signup.getpayback.com/get-started)

- **Pros:** free, no account, dead simple. Email alerts.
- **Cons:** Amazon only. Less detail than Keepa. Nothing after purchase.
- **Best for:** a quick look before you buy a gift on Amazon.

## 4. Google Shopping: the fastest gut check

Search a product, open the Shopping tab, and on many bigger items Google shows a "typical price" range or a "price is low" badge based on its own recent data across stores. It takes ten seconds and costs nothing, and during the holidays it catches the laziest fake sales, the ones where the strike-through price isn't near anything any store charges. It's thin on small stores and it has no memory, so it can't see a price that was quietly raised in October.

- **Pros:** free, no install, many stores at once.
- **Cons:** no real history. Spotty on smaller stores. Nothing after purchase.
- **Best for:** a ten-second check before you click buy.

## 5. Honey and Karma: coupons first, tracking second

Honey and Karma are coupon extensions that also track prices on items you save. During the holidays they're genuinely handy for codes at checkout and for a drop alert on a wish-list item. What they can't do is tell a fake "was" price from a real one. If a store has been running a fake 50% off since Halloween, the price never drops, so neither tool ever says a word. And neither does anything once you've paid.

They pair well with Payback for that reason. Use Honey or Karma to save a few dollars at checkout, and let Payback check afterward whether the sale itself was honest.

- **Pros:** many stores. Coupons and cashback. Alerts on saved items.
- **Cons:** only items you save. Can't judge a "was" price. Nothing after purchase.
- **Best for:** shoppers who already use a coupon extension.

## 6. Slickdeals: best for deal hunting

Slickdeals isn't a tracker, but it belongs on a holiday list because the community argues. Post a "deal" that's really the everyday price and someone will say so in the comments within the hour, often with a price history screenshot. It's the best free way to find real Black Friday bargains. It only covers what gets posted, and it can't help with an order you've already placed.

## Side by side for holiday shopping

## The holiday tactics to watch for

Whatever tracker you use, these are the moves that fool the most people between Black Friday and New Year's. We see them in the price data every year.

1. **The October lift.** The price goes up in the last two weeks of October so the Black Friday "cut" lands back at the everyday price.
2. **"Up to 70% off."** A handful of odd sizes carry the big number. The rest of the store is 10% to 15% off, if that.
3. **The timer that resets.** "Doorbusters end at midnight" on the 28th, the 29th and the 30th.
4. **"Only 3 left" on everything.** Low-stock warnings that never hit zero and never change.
5. **Cyber Monday extended.** The same sale, renamed, through December. If it never ends, the sale price is just the price.
6. **Gift-guide MSRPs.** List prices for electronics that no retailer charges, so every store's "deal" looks the same size.

## Final verdict

For Amazon, use Keepa. It's free and it's excellent. For everywhere else, which is where the holiday fake sales actually run, use Payback, because it's the only tracker that keeps working after you've paid and the only one that turns a fake sale into a refund request without you lifting a finger. Use both. A tracker before you buy on Amazon, Payback after you buy everywhere. We hold brands accountable for the little guys.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the best holiday price tracker?

Payback, because it's the only price tracker that works after you buy. It tracks store prices every day, checks the receipts in your inbox against that history, and automatically requests a refund when a Black Friday or Cyber Monday sale turns out to have been fake. For Amazon-only shopping, Keepa and CamelCamelCamel are the best free history tools.

### Is a Black Friday price really the lowest price of the year?

Often not. Many stores raise prices in October and cut them back for Black Friday, so the "deal" is the everyday price. A tracker with ninety days of history, or a community like Slickdeals, can show you. Payback checks this automatically against your receipt after you buy.

### Which price tracker works on stores other than Amazon?

Keepa and CamelCamelCamel are Amazon only. Honey and Karma alert you on saved items at many stores. Google Shopping shows a rough typical price. Payback records daily prices across hundreds of thousands of online stores in its index and checks your orders against them without you saving anything first.

### Can a price tracker get me a refund on a holiday purchase?

Trackers and coupon extensions can't. Payback can. It uses the store's own price history as evidence and asks the store for your refund on your behalf. If the store refuses, you can choose to share your case with lawyers who handle these matters. You keep what you bought either way.

### How does Payback know a holiday sale was fake?

Payback records the prices online stores advertise every day. When your receipt arrives, it compares what you paid against what the store charged in the weeks before and after. If the strike-through "was" price was never actually charged, or the "sale" price is the everyday price, the discount was fake, and Payback requests a refund.

### Is Payback free?

Yes. It's free to join, and your first refund is free. After that you keep 80% of any money Payback recovers for you. If nothing is recovered, you pay nothing.

### When should I sign up for Payback for the holidays?

Before you shop, ideally, so every receipt is checked as it arrives. But it also works on orders you've already placed. Stores can only refund an order for a limited time, so the sooner your receipts are checked, the better.
